Everything you need to know about how we started our content creation journey. From humble beginnings to big goals and an awesome mission.
It all started towards the end of 2013 when Alex found a World War II Gas Mask laying around in his grandpas' basement in Ukraine. Fearing the threats of the 2013 war in Syria, he convinced his grandpa to finally give it to him for protection. However, when he got to Beirut, there was no war in Lebanon and the mask had no actual use. This is when Jad came up with our first prank idea: Wear the Gas Mask at night, hide behind the trees and scare the pass-byers to death. HowAboutBeirut was born.
Our first video was live and it was getting traction from few people around the country asking for more. That was enough to gain us a bit of momentum which kept growing with every video we uploaded.
At that time, we were still two shy guys that just started college and had zero experience in filming/editing, handling social media and even social situations - but we always had that vision of getting recognized globally and reaching the top; For that we were willing to try, fail and learn along the way.
Few years after doing it off and on, we made a risky move and decided to drop out of college to pursue our passion full-time. Most of our friends and family thought we were crazy - they kept telling us it's not a real career and we were making the biggest mistake.
Our First Major Break
We kept executing on what we believed in and persisted until one day, one of our video series: Mannequin Scare Pranks went extremely viral around the world gaining over 150 million views and finally getting us our first major break.
Our country was now getting a lot of recognition from around the globe. People were surprised by seeing the variety in culture and the different side of Lebanon illustrated through our videos. Quickly realizing that the media falsely planted the wrong idea about Lebanon in peoples' minds through massive propaganda "that Middle East is nothing but a war zone".
We eventually got what we wanted, we became a global entertainment channel playing with the big league. However, it was time to give back to our country and help re-construct Lebanon's image.
Change Of Perspective
It was bigger than us..
Our new main mission became:
To alter the perception of Lebanon through our style of comedy in contrast to what it is being portrayed to the world through the biased mass media.
With every video we upload, we're getting a step closer to making it happen.
